PETITION TO ENFORCE ONTARIO’S TICKET RESALE LAW AND PROTECT WORLD CUP FANS

Whereas the FIFA World Cup is a historic moment for Ontario, Canada, and fans across the province;Whereas the World Cup should be affordable and accessible for everyone who wants to experience it;Whereas Marit Stiles successfully pushed for a ban on ticket resale above face value, which was included in the government’s 2026 budget and has now passed into law;Whereas fans are still facing sky-high ticket prices, with resellers and ticket platforms continuing to sell tickets above their original price;Whereas FIFA appears to be using loopholes to hike up the face value of tickets, leaving fans vulnerable to gouging even after the law has passed;Whereas Doug Ford failed to act in time to protect Toronto Blue Jays fans from obscene World Series ticket prices, and Ontario cannot afford a repeat with the World Cup;Therefore be it resolved that we, the undersigned, call on Doug Ford to immediately enforce Ontario’s ticket resale law, close any loopholes being used to gouge fans, and ensure World Cup tickets are affordable and accessible for everyone — not just those who can afford sky-high prices.
